Nonprofit Resources
At any given time, PSSA maintains 60-70 Snowmobile Clubs as Members. A majority of these Clubs are also nonprofit corporations - having responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities that attach to that tax-free status. Therefore, we would be remiss if we didn't offer some helpful links to aid our corporate members.
- Did you know that the IRS maintains a webpage expressly for nonprofit corporations? While not all content is relevant to snowmobile clubs, it’s an excellent source of information on developing a nonprofit, operating legally, and meeting government standards. You can also register for an electronic newsletter that brings you all current happenings. A particularly useful part of the site is the IRS’ “ABC’s for Exempt Organizations”.
- PANO (Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations) is Pennsylvania’s premiere source for nonprofit news, training, and publications. PANO deals with legislative issues that impact nonprofits; it offers standards for quality operations; and conducts a variety of workshops throughout the Common-wealth. Visit PANO to learn more about operating effectively and ethically in today's climate.
- Guidestar is a different type of resource for the nonprofit community, as well as a source of information for prospective members and donors. You’ll likely find that you are already listed on this site, along with your Federal tax return. Guidestar offers a host of excellent articles, written by experts in the field. Titles like “What to Ask Every Prospective Board Member”, “Getting the Word Out”, and “10 Tips to Stay Sane with Your Board” hold lots of useful grains of information for ALL nonprofits.
- The PA Department of State Corporation Bureau offers, through its Nonprofit page, a portal to information on doing business in the Commonwealth legally and efficiently.
