Age requirements and regulations for
youthful operators of snowmobiles in northeastern states and
provinces:

Quebec - Minimum age required is 14 in Quebec with safety classes completed. 16 and over do not need safety classes.
New Brunswick - You must be 14 years of age to drive a snowmobile unsupervised. However, if you are under the supervision of an adult (19 years of age), you may operate a snowmobile when under the age of 14. There are no mandatory operator safety courses for youth or adults to operate a snowmobile in N.B.
Ontario - Driver's 16 and Under: If you are between the age of 12 and 15 and hold a motorized snow vehicle operator's license, you may operate a snowmobile on trails. A trail means the whole of any trail established and maintained by a recreational organization for the use of motorized snow vehicles. Non- Residents: To drive a snowmobile in Ontario, the residents of another province, state or country, must have in their possession a valid driver's license, issued by the particular jurisdiction, which allows them to operate a MSV.
New Hampshire - Any juvenile under
the age of 17 needs one of the following to operate an Off Highway Recreational
Vehicle, OHRV off of their parents, grandparents, or guardians property.
#1 A valid Drivers License, in NH a child can get their drivers license when 16
years old.
#2 Successful Completion of an approved OHRV Safety Education Class,
#3 Must be accompanied by a licensed adult over the age of 18. In this situation
accompanied is defined as in sight and physical control at all times. OHRV
Safety Education Classes are requirements in NH are valid for 12 to 17 year
olds. A Pennsylvania 10 year old who has received their certification in PA can
operate in NH. However, in order to cross Public Ways the operator must possess
either a valid drivers license or OHVR Safety Certificate.
New York - In New York State the young drivers between the ages if 10 and 18 must take a safety course in order to drive alone. New York does recognize Pennsylvania certifications.
Vermont - Requirements for "junior" riders. Anyone born after July 1, 1983, who will be operating a snowmobile on the VAST trail system, must complete a six-hour Snowmobile Safety Course recognized by Vermont. All operators under the age of 16 must be supervised, at all times, by an adult at least 18 years of age.
Maine - Children must be 10 years of age to operate a snowmobile on land other than the land owned by their parent or guardian, unless accompanied by an adult. A child must be fourteen years of age before crossing a public way while operating a snowmobile. If a person under 18 years of age has a snowmobile accident, the owned of the sled, the person who furnishes the sled and the parent or guardian responsible for the minor are jointly liable with the minor for damages caused in the operation of that sled.
