A lot of what happens to impact your business or your ability to ride a snowmobile in Pennsylvania, doesn’t happen at the local level.
Laws change, trails are threatened, funding questions arise. For these reasons it’s critical that snowmobilers and related businesses have state-level representation and support.
While PSSA continues to work to overcome threats to ridership, it is working doubly hard to make the Pennsylvania snowmobiling experience even better.
Although we can’t guarantee snow, your colleagues in PSSA are working closely with State Government and its Membership to make well marked, well-groomed, and GIS mapped trails a reality.
And if you’re a manufacturer, dealer or associate member — better snowmobiling makes for better business!
As we’ve mentioned, the big achievements and decisions that impact the future of snowmobiling don’t occur at the local level alone. PSSA works to see that your interests are protected and actively represented at the local, state, and national level to:
Over the years, PSSA has driven legislation to provide registration and require liability insurance, lights, mufflers, and brakes for snowmobiles; to allow 110” wide trailers on the road; to create safety certification for children, and then to keep the minimum age from rising to 14 or dropping to 8.
It’s defended against laws to require turn signals and windshield wipers on sleds, and to prohibit riding at night. More recently, after more than a decade of work, the Governor signed legislation in 2005 that applies a $1 million/year liquid fuels tax refund (from the operation of snowmobiles and ATVs) to the maintenance of roads and bridges used by those vehicles.
PSSA not only works to see that you have access to the most up-to-date information, but also to see that it’s members have an effective means to reach others that care about their sport.
www.pasnow.org gives you immediate access to online news, updates, trail information and more
PSSA offers the only 12-month snowmobiling newsletter, giving you current news on snowmobiling, products, and events with a monthly issue of the Keystone Snowmobiler.
For snowmobile clubs in Pennsylvania and adjacent states, www.pasnow.org & the Keystone Snowmobiler allow you to get out club news and publicize events to thousands of snowmobilers – for free.
PSSA has negotiated special programs to meet your insurance needs and to save you money:
Pennsylvania’s Premier Powersports Show is held every fall.
Annual Awards Luncheon – The Annual Awards Luncheon, held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting & Spring Conference, recognizes the best of the best in Pennsylvania snowmobiling. Snowmobile clubs have the opportunity to nominate a Snowmobiler or the Year, Dealer of the Year, Snowmobile Family of the Year, and Forester/Government Official of the Year. These are the people whose special contributions shape the sport in Pennsylvania.
PSSA’s Annual Meeting, scheduled each April, offers everyone the opportunity to catch up on significant snowmobiling news, to learn about projects and programs, and to have a voice in electing officers and setting the policy that governs and guides the State Organization. Watch for details coming soon.
