In fall of 2005, PSSA’s Executive Committee met to layout a vision for “growing the sport of snowmobiling in Pennsylvania”.

The following year, PSSA presented a proposal to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) that outlined this vision of a viable snowmobile trail system featuring quality trail maintenance, mapping, grooming, and signage throughout the Commonwealth.

The ability to fund snowmobile clubs’ small statewide trail maintenance and improvement projects in a timely manner was viewed as a critical component of the Association’s planning to make that vision a reality. The Mini-Grant Program, subsequently funded by DCNR and initiated in 2006, was the first step toward meeting that need. PSSA has awarded close to $550,000 to 25 clubs for approximately 155 projects since 2006. These mini-grants aid with the cost of grooming, trail maintenance, and construction.
