Marienville Riders – August 2020

Volunteers from the Marienville Trail Riders Snowmobile Club rebuilt a one mile section of trail 11 just north of the new bridge alongside Blue Jay Road. This section of trail is a multi use trail for ATV and snowmobiling. In the winter, when there is snow, it has a half mile section of hemlock canopy and looks beautiful in the winter. Joe LaClair, Jerry and Roxanne Thornton spent a couple hours on two separate mornings lowering two culvert pipes that had raised above ground several inches and prepared a place to turn the dump trailers around. Monday, members Hank Bauer, and Jerry Thornton, met ATV member Bill Lamoreaux at 6 am to pick up the skid steer donated by Bauer Trucking from Shippenville, Pa. ,to use to level 100 tons of pit stone. The pit stone was delivered by Lee Lewis Trucking with the first load being delivered by 10 AM along side Blue Jay Road. Because of mechanical issues with the skid steer, the club lucked out by acquiring a backhoe from Minard Oil which saved the day. Another very helpful individual was Dan Zimmerman who supplied us with his dump truck to haul the stone, high lift to load, and his time. In this time period of just one 12 hour day, these guys hauled 100 ton of pit stone, leveled it and installed two more culvert pipes. The next day, Joe LaClair, Donnie Gawelski, Jerry Thornton and Hank Bauer hauled in 44 ton of gravel to cover the pit stone in just 6 hours. Thanks to Howe Township for allowing the club to store the gravel on their property and especially, Tom Zimmerman and Scott Parrish from Howe Township. Many many thanks to Lee Lewis, and Dan Zimmerman for their time and commitment. Another big appreciative effort by Gary Davis from Minard Oil. Thank you to Randy Bauer from Bauer Trucking out of Shippenville. Let’s not forget the US Forest Service for their assistance. The money for the material came from leftover grooming money from this past season. The Forest County club along with the Highland Snow Seekers and the Willows Club made improvements in their areas. When we get snow, these trails will be in much better shape. This is all the reason why snowmobilers should join a local club and also the state PSSA.
