Laurel Highlands News Update June 2019

Laurel Highlands Snowmobile Club is proud to congratulate Jake Hay who was selected as Teen of the Year for thePennsylvania State Snowmobile Association. Jake was presented with the award at the PSSA Spring meeting at the Ramada Inn located in State College, Pa. Jake and his parents were present at the ceremonial luncheon. PSSA provided a plaque and a free lunch for the family. Thank you PSSA.

Here are some interesting facts about the award winner:

1. He and his dad, Doug attend meetings. Doug is a board member.

2. The two of them show up for workdays.

3. They come to club picnics.

4. They attend all drag races and are hard workers.

5. Jake attends Ligonier Valley High School and is on the JV football team.

6. Jake is a member of the varsity wrestling team.

7. Jake is a member of the high school ROTC.

8. Jake has a part time job with Foggy Mountain Lodge and Restaurant.

9. Jake is an active member of his local Lutheran Church.

Here is another bit of information that may be of interest. Our local newspaper the Tribune Review said to check your statements if you have EZ Pass. There have been mistakes made, some of which are significant. For example, the fee to go from Irwin to Monroeville, Pa. should be $1.40. A person was charged $10 each way. Better safe than sorry to check it out.

Another story of interest is the change of deer season from the Monday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This change has stirred many opinions. A panel of 8 people was what it took to change it. I went to GOOGLE and asked a question, “How can I comment to the Game commission??” It steered me in the right direction, and I made my comment. I was told that I would receive a reply. Several weeks have gone by and I am still waiting to hear back. My comment was as follows: “Let the hunters decide. When hunters go to buy a license let them vote on the issue. If they approve to the issue—so be it. Let it be a majority of say 70-75 %. If the hunters say to change it—do it. Also, Sunday hunting. If the hunters want it—so be it. The paper stated we have used the Monday after Thanksgiving for 55 years. Why be in such a hurry to change it???? The vote to change it by the way was 5 -3. Enough on the above issue–my Dad always said 2 topics will always bring you an argument. Topic # 1- politics Topic # 2-religion I just wanted to bring these articles to your attention as they may affect many of you in our snowmobiling sport.

Our meetings will continue throughout the summer as usual on the second Thursday of the Month at 8:00 PM in the clubhouse. The workdays for the summer are scheduled to take place at the clubhouse on the second Saturday of each month. We will be working on the clubhouse and grounds maintenance as well as preparing for the fall Grass Drag races. Feel free to join us. There is always free food involved if that helps. In August, we will have our annual hayride and picnic. Check out our website: www.lhsc.net or Facebook page for more information and updates about the meetings, workdays, and events.

Until next time—live life to its fullest.
