Moving Forward December

MOVING FORWARD

December 2017

Happy Holidays!

This should be the year for great snowfall!  Take time to enjoy your family by taking them on a snowmobile trip in Pennsylvania.    Happy Riding!

This is also the time of the year that we remind our members of the Snow Angel Medical Fund.  Your contributions are used to help pay for medical bills, transportation etc. for a medical needy person under 18 years of age.  You can make your contribution on our website or mail a check marked “Snow Angel Medical Fund” to the Palmyra office.    If you know of someone in need please contact your Regional Director or a Board member for more information.  Mrs. Watkins with the assistance of Mrs. Hayes has agreed to Chair this very important committee.

The Board is presently reviewing the PowerSport Show.  A few new events were tried this year.  Friday night featured the “Tough Truck” competition.  Tractor pulls were on Saturday.   Sunday was the show for Antique Cars.  Saturday hours were extended to 8pm.  The Antique Car Show was canceled due to the weather.   However, Twenty-five of the Car Club members attended the Show to promote our events.  Thank you.   High profile vests were purchased for the Used Sled Corral and traffic control.  They were well-received.    Now it is the responsibility of the Board to analyze and makes decisions concerning these events.

Volunteers are always needed.  Contact Travis Mathna if you can help in any way.  Our volunteers who travel to the Show pay for their own hotel and food bills.  Without their help we could not have this Show.  Thank you.

Our promoters also helped cut costs by using social media and the internet to attract vendors and sponsors.  The profit for this Show depends on attendance, vendors and cutting costs.   PSSA has fixed costs for this Show regardless of the attendance or weather.   Plan to attend and help next year.

This was the first year for Travis Mathna (chair) to be in charge of the show.  It was also the first year for Arlene LaTourette (Treasurer) to handle the money.  Kudos to both.  Thank you to anyone who shared their experience with them.  They did a great job and they can both relax now.

After the show ended I drove to the Scranton area to review and discuss the GPS/Signage/Mapping program with representatives from N.E. PA Sno- Trails and ACE club.  Chick Walters and I drove part of their trail system.  We visited the club meeting place and groomer shed.  Like many other clubs they have experienced the need to reroute some trails.

From there I actually drove to the ACE meeting building and groomer barn.  In spite of Clint LaTourette’s directions such as:  “go over the bridge and take the first left, at the Y intersection take the right, continue on for two or three miles thru a major intersection, at the next Y take a right, continue on about 6 miles and at the intersection turn right and the barn is the first building on the left.”  Believe it or not I MADE IT.  (I admit I made one wrong turn at a small y intersection) What a beautiful area to have snowmobile trails.  Clint showed me around and I shared the mapping information for Phase Three of the GPS/Signage/Mapping program.  Consider joining a club and help maintain the trails.

Phase Three Clubs can now make changes on our mapping website as they are out on the trails.  Future plans are to integrate these maps with the DCNR maps and make them available to the general public.   We hope to make this resource available to all clubs.

Finally, Year Two of the Video Project is in the final planning stages.  We are in need of business and club sponsors to help support this endeavor.    Anyone can help sponsor this video including all clubs.  Contact Lori Elliott if you can help sponsor this video or provide possible sponsor names.

These Videos help promote snowmobile riding in Pennsylvania.  Ride PA!

Think Snow!  (Let’s do a SNOW dance!)
